Even though the alleged identity of a high-profile Russian hacker—Vladislav Horohorin—has been known since 2009, it wasn’t until he took a trip to France earlier this month that “BadB” was arrested.

Now a French court must decide whether to extradite him to the United States, where he could be jailed for up to 12 years, reports the New York Times.

Until the ill-fated trip abroad, Horohorin lived openly in Moscow and was identified by his handle on at least one website. Meanwhile, he offered what the U.S. Secret Service describes in a press release as “the first and only fully automated card information online vending site.”

Horohorin is charged with access device fraud; aggravated identity theft;and aiding and abetting.
