Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Chicago classical-music lovers are in for a treat next week. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a noted opera fan, will be sharing some of her favorite music with radio station WFMT.

Ginsburg is scheduled to be on the air as a guest host on Monday, Sept. 21, starting at 10 a.m. CT. She’ll be joined by her son, James Ginsburg, who runs the nonprofit classical music label Cedille Records. Fans not in Chicago can stream the broadcast at this link.

Following her guest disc jockey gig, Ginsburg will be discussing opera and the law in a live broadcast with WFMT host Lisa Flynn. The discussion will include performances of pieces Ginsburg selected, including the “Seguidilla” scene from Georges Bizet’s Carmen; “I Accept Their Verdict” from Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd; and Patrick De Rocher’s aria from Dead Man Walking.
