The man who shot President Reagan is seeking longer visits with his parents.

John W. Hinckley Jr. has been confined to a mental hospital in Washington, D.C., since his acquittal by reason of insanity.

Previous visits usually lasted four days, but now he is seeking up to four weeks with his parents, the Washington Post reports.

A hospital psychologist testified in a hearing before U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman that Hinckley no longer poses a danger to himself or others. The hearing continues today.
