Recent Grad Says Law Firms Inundated with Resumes

A recent law graduate in California is worried that the state’s delay in dispatching tax refunds could do further damage to the economy—and to her job search.

The state is delaying refunds for at least 30 days because of a $15 billion budget shortfall, Reuters reports. Sarah Gilson of San Francisco told the wire service she wasn’t expecting a refund, but she worries that the decision will have a big impact on law firm hiring.

"I don't see how that stimulates the economy," said the recent law grad. She already faces a difficult job market and fears it could worsen. One law firm put a hiring notice on her school’s bulletin board, but pulled it in just a few hours after receiving 400 applications, Gilson said.

"You're not even getting reply e-mails thanking you for your application because so many people are looking for work that firms can't process them," she told Reuters.

Our greatest outlaw, welfare state in action again.  This is some high quality tax policy here.  You have some number of taxpayers who overwithheld (providing a financial benefit to the state coffer).  So, naturally, California rewards these taxpayers by holding their refunds, thereby stealing from them an additional period of interest-free use.  I can’t eat enough food to vomit as much as this conduct warrants.  What a pathetic freakshow of an excuse for a state government.

It certainly does suggest that Californians should change the exemptions they put on their W-4 so less is withheld.  This is one more reason I will never live in California.

Give California a break.  After all, are there not still good looking actresses living in California?  We should be grateful to the industry for providing us with good cable entertainment and movies.  I recommend that California give tax refunds out.
