After joining Reed Smith in 2011 from DLA Piper along with three other lawyers, U.S. capital markets practice group chair Yvan-Claude Pierre wasn’t looking to lead his team to another major firm.

But that’s what he’s doing, after some persuasion from Cooley’s CEO, Joe Conroy, the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) reports.

“Pierre wasn’t really interested in making a move, so I had to work on him, but this really helps us in the New York market and complements a lot of our other practice areas,” Conroy told the legal publication Thursday. He said it took him well over a year to persuade Pierre to exit Reed Smith.

In a law firm press release, Conroy described Pierre, who also headed Reed Smith’s global corporate and securities group, and the three other new partners who are coming with him from Reed Smith as expert corporate lawyers.

“Yvan-Claude is a proven dealmaker and we feel fortunate that he and his long-time colleagues have chosen to join Cooley’s market-leading corporate practice,” Conroy said in the release. “Together, they are a highly talented and seasoned group that will deepen our capability to serve the increasingly complex legal needs of public and private companies alike, both in the U.S. and worldwide.”

Cooley has added 25 corporate partners since 2013, the release notes.
