In Ohio, it’s illegal to disrobe in front of a man’s portrait. In Alabama, it is illegal to have an ice cream cone in your back pocket. In Georgia, picnics in cemeteries are prohibited. In Connecticut, a pickle isn’t really a pickle unless it bounces.

Those are some of the laws portrayed in an online photo series called “I Fought the Law” by photographer Olivia Locher. Slate spoke with Locher about the project, which so far has portrayed bizarre and outdated laws in all but about 10 states.

Locher said the idea for the series took shape after a friend told her about Alabama’s ice cream cone law. She kept thinking about the conversation and began to research crazy laws in other states. Most of her photos are shot in her New York studio.

“I’m a firm believer that if a creative idea pops into your head more than three times you have to do something about it!” Locher explained in the Slate interview.

Locher will be exhibiting some photos from her “I Fought the Law” series, along with other photos, at a New York City gallery between Jan. 22 and Feb. 28.
