Reward Offered in Hit-and-Run Death of Calif. Lawyer and GOP Leader Killed While Jogging
As family and friends attended a funeral Mass today in San Francisco for attorney Donald Casper, 63, a $12,500 reward was announced for information about the hit-and-run driver who struck him from behind with a white pickup as he was jogging on Aug. 14, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Casper, a partner of Jacobs Spotswood & Casper and vice president of the San Francisco Civil Service Commission, had also served in a number of Republican party leadership posts.

Described by his friend and law partner Richard Spotswood as “a gentleman lawyer rather than an intense lawyer,” Casper, however, didn’t hesitate to litigate against former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger over a plan to sell and lease back state-owned buildings in San Francisco to close a budget shortfall.
Booted by Schwarzenegger from the San Francisco State Building Authority after he and two other plaintiffs challenged the constitutionality of the plan, Casper was reappointed to the group when Gov. Jerry Brown took office. Meanwhile, an appellate court had put the building sale plan on hold and Brown cancelled it once he was in charge.
“I think that’s his biggest civic achievement—oddly enough,” Spotswood told the newspaper, pointing out that Schwarzenegger was a fellow Republican.
