A Romanian criminal defense lawyer was fined 5,000 lei ($1,148) Tuesday for flouting court decorum and arriving late for the trial of five Romanians charged in an art theft, the Associated Press reports.

Catalin Dancu of Bucharest showed up for trial wearing a black robe over his jeans and sneakers, a bright blue pair of Adidas which he said cost him 200 euros ($264).

He said he had been delayed in another court. But he didn’t explain the outfit. “I am scented, shaved and fresh,” he told the AP. “I am going to contest this fine.”
