Rushing to appear in court in a traffic case last month, Pete Doherty of Babyshambles grabbed the wrong jacket.

And then he failed to check the pockets. That led to the rock singer’s arrest for dropping a bag containing heroin when he walked out of court after his traffic hearing, his lawyer, Bruce Clark, told a British judge today in Doherty’s new drug case, reports the Guardian.

“My client has many suits and did not know there was anything in the pocket. He had been in and out of court twice before the package fell out of his pocket. He feels very stupid … but he accepts responsibility,” Clark told District Judge Joti Boparai.

Doherty is currently receiving drug treatment, Clark added.

Boparai fined Doherty approximately $1,200 in U.S. dollars in the Gloucester magistrates’ court case and told him to pay his fine of about $3,300 in the previous drunken driving and careless driving case.

Although Doherty reportedly arrived 45 minutes late for today’s hearing, he apparently departed the the court without being charged with any new offense.
