Philadelphia-based law firm Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis has confirmed that it made layoffs last month: three partners were let go, as well five associates and “less than 10” staff members.
Managing partner Ralph Wellington told The Legal Intelligencer that the partners who were laid off were in practice areas that he said weren’t sustainable in the firm’s long-term business plan, but declined to identify the practices, saying only that one was real estate-related. Wellington said five partners—in intellectual property, bankruptcy and tax—were hired in the same time frame.
Wellington said he expected no more layoffs to be made at the 200-lawyer firm.

It’s good to hear from a firm that actually has a long term business plan.
