Although a high school prom in Mississippi was canceled and Constance McMillen says she was tricked into attending a sham prom after her after she challenged a ban on same-sex dates, McMillen was nonetheless a prevailing plaintiff in a civil rights suit.

So a federal judge has ordered the Itawamba County School District to cover her attorney fees of about $81,000, the Associated Press reports

The American Civil Liberties Union joined McMillen in the suit, which resulted in a $35,000 settlement. More details about the case are provided in a previous ABAJournal.com post.
