Schulte Roth & Zabel has sued Highland Capital Management, claiming the troubled investment firm owes $2.83 million in legal fees.
The summons filed Monday in New York state court says Schulte Roth has unpaid invoices dating to June 2008, the American Lawyer reports.
Highland Capital counters that Schulte Roth overbilled for legal services, Bloomberg reports. “Highland has paid Schulte Roth nearly $1 million in good faith, and has made every effort to resolve this issue with them,” the investment firm said in a statement e-mailed to the wire service.
Highland Capital is liquidating its main hedge fund. A pending investor suit claims the investment firm misrepresented the health of the fund.
