A Seattle law firm that represents indigent defendants has notified the Washington State Bar Association that one of its lawyers removed a blood-spattered envelope from a home where six family members were killed on Christmas Eve in 2007.

According to a motion filed by the Society of Counsel Representing Accused Persons, the law firm has been told that lawyer Corey Edmonds removed the envelope in January 2009, the Seattle Times reports. Lawyer Lisa Mulligan allegedly examined the envelope before it was turned over to another lawyer who briefly represented the suspect, Michele Anderson, the motion says. SCRAP now represents Anderson, who is accused of killing her parents and other family members.

Anne Daly, executive director of SCRAP, told the newspaper that SCRAP officials learned of the envelope after a law firm investigator reported it. She said SCRAP is asking a judge to appoint a new lawyer from her firm to the case, or to remove her firm from the case altogether.
