A farmer in Maryland known for his prize-winning giant watermelons is missing a sizeable portion of his crop.

The Hartford County Sheriff’s Department is asking locals to be on the lookout for a 150-pound Carolina cross watermelon apparently stolen right off the vine from Bradley Northcote’s farm, reports the Baltimore Sun.

Last seen by its owner at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, the monster melon has an estimated value of about $1,500. Nothing else is missing, authorities say.

“I’m just amazed at the effort someone went to in order to steal a watermelon,” Northcote said tells ABC 2 News. “You really need a strategy for a theft like this; not just because of the size, but it was located on the most inaccessible part of the property.”
