'Shocked' judge nixes gag order, but says he will refer Drew Peterson lawyer for ethics review
At a Tuesday hearing, a suburban Chicago judge said he has been “shocked” by some public comments the lead trial lawyer for Drew Peterson has made following his now-former client’s murder conviction.
But, apparently agreeing with Peterson’s current counsel, Steven Greenberg, that attorney Joel Brodsky may have gone too far and violated attorney-client privilege in what he has said about Peterson and the Will County case, Judge Edward Burmila announced that he would send a transcript of the hearing to Illinois legal ethics officials, reports the Southtown Star.
Burmila declined, however, to issue a gag order prohibiting Brodsky from making such comments in the future, as Greenberg had requested.
Brodsky, who has filed a defamation suit against Greenberg, says he has a right to defend himself against public criticism.
