A petition at change.org is urging Ben & Jerry’s to recognize more women by naming a flavor after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The flavor would be called “Ruth Bader Ginger,” the Blog of Legal Times reports. The ice cream would consist of brown sugar cinnamon ice cream mixed with gingersnap cookies and a ginger caramel swirl.

A second proposal would name a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream “Sonya SotomayOreo Mint Cookie.”

Support for the ice cream homage to the justices began with a Buzzfeed post that said Ben & Jerry’s has created more than 20 flavors honoring groups or people, but only two of them referenced women (Liz Lemon Greek Frozen Yogurt for Tina Fey’s character on 30 Rock, and Hannah Teter’s Maple Blondie for the Olympic snowboarder).

The post lists the proposed ice creams honoring Ginsburg and Sotomayor.

An NPR guest column supported the idea. “Calling attention to gender disparities of this kind is valuable precisely because such disparities so easily go unnoticed,” the article said.
