A Georgia lawyer is asking his congressman to help overturn the Atlanta Braves playoffs loss in a letter that applies government shutdown logic to baseball.

The letter, published by NBC Sports’ Hardball Talk, was written by Paul J. Kaplan, a senior in-house counsel at Home Depot, Above the Law reports. Kaplan sent the letter to U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, a Georgia Republican.

“Thank you for your courageous stand against Obamacare and in support of the government shutdown,” Kaplan writes. The “bold act of statesmanship” gave Kaplan an idea. He writes that the congressman is surely profoundly disappointed that the Braves lost the National League Division Series to the Dodgers, “a bunch of California liberals!”

“This outrage cannot be allowed to stand,” Kaplan writes. “L.A.’s stubborn refusal to even talk to us about reversing the results of this series is un-sportsmanlike and un-American. But there is an answer: If the Dodgers won’t listen to the cries of average Americans like you and me, then Congress should outlaw Major League Baseball until the Dodgers cave. …

“Just because the Dodgers had more hits, scored more runs , and won more games doesn’t make them right. You can help them see that. And if that means the country will be deprived of its national pastime—well, the Dodgers will have only themselves to blame.”

Kingston responded in a letter that says it’s true the Republicans and the Braves have a lot in common.”You could say that the Republicans ‘Bravely’ take on tough issues such as defunding Obamacare and trying to curtail runaway spending,” Kingston wrote. “And we don’t mind clearing the dugout for a good brawl. We also agree that Dodgers is a fitting name for the Democrats as they often ‘Dodge’ serious issues such as balancing the budget or cutting spending.”

Kaplan didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
