Some Law Firms Add Mini Round of 2L Recruiting

Some law firms that made a limited number of offers during on-campus recruiting are returning for a new round of interviews with second-year law students.

The reason, according to the American Lawyer: Students got multiple job offers and turned down some law firms, leaving some unfilled 2010 summer associate positions.

Students getting the new interviews tend to be a select group who match criteria such as practice area experience and interest, or a willingness to work in a certain area of the country, the story says. And there are not likely to be a flood of offers coming out of the new recruiting round.

“Firms are still being very selective,” Mark Weber, Harvard’s assistant dean for career services, told the publication. “This has been a pleasant surprise, but it’s not like they are absolutely beating down our doors.”

Law firm recruiters were reluctant to say whether they were going back to law schools for fear they would appear unable to attract the best students. But law school officials interviewed by the American Lawyer mentioned the names Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Kelley Drye & Warren; Kaye Scholer; and Latham & Watkins.
