U.S. Supreme Court justices usually aren’t hounded by autograph seekers and well-wishers, or surrounded by swarms of people during public appearances.

But the court’s newest justice, Sonia Sotomayor, has become something of a celebrity, attracting attention wherever she goes, the Associated Press reports.

One of the most popular YouTube videos shows Sotomayor doing the mambo to a song written for her. A search of YouTube for Sotomayor videos turned up 2,000 of them, twice the amount of videos for other justices, the story says. During a celebration of Latino music outside the White House, a throng of people with cameras clamored for a photo of Sotomayor.

“Apparently, no one told Sonia Sotomayor that Supreme Court justices are supposed to be circumspect, emerging from their marble palace mainly to dispense legal wisdom to law schools, judges’ conferences and lawyers’ meetings,” AP says.

“Since becoming the first Hispanic justice, Sotomayor has mamboed with movie stars, exchanged smooches with musicians at the White House and thrown out the first pitch for her beloved New York Yankees. A famous jazz composer even wrote a song about her: ‘Wise Latina Woman.’ In short, Sotomayor has become a celebrity.”
