It isn't only in the legal arena that the newest member of the U.S. Supreme Court bench can demonstrate impressive footwork.
Invited onto the dance floor last night by actor Esai Morales at an annual Washington, D.C., gala held by the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, Sonia Sotomayor drew cheers for her salsa steps and turns during a mambo number, reports the Reliable Source blog of the Washington Post.
A video provided by Washington Life captures the moment, for those who want to see another side of Sotomayor.
Her dance with the heartthrob of the 1987 movie La Bamba was not entirely spontaneous, however: The magazine reports, citing unidentified sources, that the justice had been practicing her dance moves for the past month in preparation for the Sotomayor Mambo.
"We all know she is a great judge, but, I think she just proved she has some swift moves on the dance floor as well as in the courtroom,” said Morales.
