A lawyer for sportswear maker Skins International Trading has sent a letter to cycling’s governing body claiming mismanagement of the Lance Armstrong doping scandal has cost the company more than $2 million in damages.

The letter by Swiss-based lawyer Cedric Aguet says the scandal harmed the sport and Skins, an official clothing supplier to several cycling teams and a racing sponsor, the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) reports. Armstrong has denied doping allegations.

The letter to the Union Cycliste Internationaleor says the company intends to recover its damages through the courts.

UCI defended its actions, saying it has taken a lead role in the fight against doping “since the dark period of Lance Armstrong.” The Daily Mail published the UCI statement.
