Spying in Mexican AG's Office Could Be Linked to US DEA
Spying on behalf of a major drug trafficking cartel is still ongoing at the Mexican attorney general’s office, the nation’s chief law enforcement officer suspects, even after five officials there have been arrested.
Meanwhile, an unidentified former U.S. Embassy employee is telling Mexican officials in Washington, D.C., that he leaked details of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration operations to the same Beltran-Leyva cartel, reports the Associated Press, relying on an unnamed source in the Mexican AG’s office.
“The Drug Enforcement Administration’s intelligence chief expressed concern about the alleged spy’s claims, but said he couldn’t confirm that the embassy had been infiltrated, and that it was too early to pull out undercover agents for fear their identities may have been compromised,” the news agency wrote.
