A co-managing partner at Susman Godfrey is offering his take on morale boosters at his law firm.

Responding to a Texas Lawyer inquiry on the subject, co-managing partner Neal Manne offered four reasons for happy associates (leaving partners out of the mix because they “exist in a state of perpetual bliss”).

All employees get free snacks, and stand-up desks are provided to all associates who prefer them, Manne tells Texas Lawyer (sub. req.). Then there is the cognac incident.

Law firm leaders “maintain[ed] our composure when our associates decided to charge us for—and consume—a case of cognac pre-dating the McKinley administration,” Manne said.

The cognac led to another happiness booster: “the hotel security camera footage of a very strong associate relocating a huge statue during the middle of the night during our firm retreat in Deer Valley, Utah.”
