Home brewers in Wisconsin who want to enter their beers in tasting competitions will be safe from prosecution under a bill sent to Gov. Scott Walker.

Walker plans to sign the bill, which allows homemade beer and wine to be transported and shared with other adults, the Associated Press reports. Sales of homemade alcohol will still be prohibited, though.

The story cites statistics from the American Homebrewers Association, which says at least 17 states have ambiguous laws on whether it’s legal to transport home-made alcohol outside the home. Two states—Mississippi and Alabama—ban home brewing. But the laws could be changing.

According to AP, “An explosion of interest in home brewing is forcing lawmakers across the country to review long-forgotten alcohol laws, some of which date back to Prohibition.”
