Sued by a Mississippi lawyer he is criminally charged with conspiring to do away with, a local doctor has counterclaimed in the civil action for emotional distress.

Dr. Arnold Smith, 70, contends that attorney Lee Abraham, with others, schemed in secret to make him suffer “severe mental and emotional distress,” but doesn’t detail Abraham’s alleged actions, reports the Greenwood Commonwealth (sub. req.).

The Associated Press also has a story.

Smith is facing conspiracy charges for allegedly hiring a hit man to murder Abraham, as well as a capital murder charge in the death of the claimed would-be hitman, who was killed during an April shootout with law enforcement agents in Abraham’s law office.

Abraham filed a civil conspiracy suit against Smith last month in Leflore County Circuit Court, saying that he has altered his daily activities as a result of the physician’s actions and seeking damages for loss of enjoyment of life.
