Suit Spurs Gov. to Quit E-mail
New Jersey’s governor won’t be using e-mail following a lawsuit seeking messages he exchanged with a state union president.
Gov. Jon Corzine claims the messages are shielded by executive privilege, but he intends to avoid the possibility of future discovery disputes, the New York Times reports. “We’ll go back to the 1920s, and have direct conversations with people,” he says.
The state Republican chairman claims in the suit that Corzine’s friendship and financial dealings with Carla Katz of the Communications Workers of America affected state contract negotiations. An ethics panel found the governor did not have a conflict of interest.
