Supreme Court Beefs Up Argument Calendar
The U.S. Supreme Court bolstered its thin argument calendar when it accepted 17 new cases yesterday.
The action followed Monday’s “long conference” in which justices review cert petitions received during the summer, Legal Times reports. Before accepting the new cases, the court had scheduled only 26 hours of oral arguments.
Among the cases accepted are challenges to Kentucky’s lethal injection procedure, Indiana’s voter ID law, and a ruling that allowed patent holders to seek royalties from multiple companies involved in the manufacturing process for a product.
The court now has 43 pending cases, five more than at this same time last year, SCOTUSblog reports. An expedited schedule for all 17 of the new cases means they could all be argued in January.
