A man identified by authorities as a suspect in the courtroom slayings yesterday of a Brussels magistrate judge and a court clerk has been arrested in a Belgium park.

The unidentified suspect is reportedly an Iranian refugee who was granted asylum in 2002. Authorities say he admitted firing at the two victims yesterday as they presided over a civil tribunal. He was allegedly motivated by a grudge against the magistrate, who evicted him in 2007 from his house, according to the BBC News and the London Times.

“Three years ago, he was in a rental dispute with his landlord and the judge evicted him,” spokesman Jean-Marc Meilleur of the Brussels prosecutor’s office tells the Times. “According to his own statement, he was out for revenge.

“The motive seems to have revenge against the justice system in general and this judge in particular.”
