Suspect in High-Profile Holloway Case Sues Lawyer Who Represented Him in Peru Murder
A Dutch man who remains the sole suspect in the 2005 disappearance in Aruba of American teen Natalee Holloway has sued his lawyer in another case, in which he is accused of murdering a young woman in his hotel room while visiting Peru.
Joran van der Sloot was unsuccessful in his attempt to have his reported confession on June 7 to the May 30 murder of Stephany Flores thrown out, recounts the Associated Press.
But now he is suing attorney Luz Romero Chinchay, who represented him in a police interrogation the day he allegedly confessed, for conspiracy to commit a crime, misrepresentation and abuse of authority. He contends that she was not properly qualified to serve as his public defender.
Maximo Altez is the attorney now representing van der Sloot.
