A rape suspect who was tied to a restraining chair for the first day of his trial in Seattle yesterday tried to lunge at his lawyer as he was being wheeled from the courtroom for a break.

The suspect, Curtis Thompson, lunged and yelled at his lawyer, John Hicks, the Seattle Times reports. “You scared to death, ain’t you punk?” Thompson yelled at Hicks, according to the newspaper story.

Thompson was in a restraint chair because he had made death threats against lawyers and judges, the story says.

Thompson served 18 years in prison for four rapes committed in 1985, but jurors refused to send him to a treatment center for offenders after his release. He is being tried for rape and faces another trial for the murder of a woman who was stabbed to death by a screwdriver.
