Clinton Inabnit had reportedly warned Kentucky attorney Mark Stanziano that people wanted the lawyer dead and that he had been asked to kill him.

But Stanziano didn’t take the warning seriously. He did take Inabnit to lunch and offer to pay if he got treatment, the lawyer’s widow said last year after Inabnit was charged with shooting the 57-year-old attorney to death outside his Somerset law office. A Pulaski County sheriff’s detective reportedly witnessed the fatal June 27, 2014 attack.

Found competent to stand trial earlier this year, Inabnit entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill on Monday, WLEX reports.

Inabnit’s trial on murder and wanton endangerment charges had been scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
