Tax Commission Asks Judge to Close Law Firm, Says $180K Owed re Employee Tax Withholding
The Oklahoma Tax Commission has asked a judge to shut down an Oklahoma City law firm until the lawyer who operates it posts bond, contending that attorney Doug Friesen has failed to file required paperwork and owes nearly $180,000 in employee tax withholding he is supposed to send to the state and penalties.
However, Friesen said he has already caught up on most of what he owes, estimating the outstanding balance at approximately $5,000, and has previously filed all required paperwork, the Oklahoman reports. He blamed the court case on state record-keeping errors and poor communication between the state and its collection agency.
“I’m going to stay open. I’m not going anywhere,” he told the newspaper.
