Ten lawyers from Bracewell & Giuliani, a majority of whom are women and minorities, are leaving the law firm to open a public sector law boutique.

A press release notes the diversity of the new firm, Thompson & Horton, and said both firms will “work together as strategic partners.” Bracewell & Giuliani partner Jennifer Weston told the Houston Chronicle the firms will work together in a spirit of “cooperation and longtime friendship,” but Bracewell will not support the smaller firm financially.

David Thompson, who will be a name partner at the new firm when it opens Jan. 1, told the Chronicle that it will be made up of lawyers who “do public law and are committed and passionate about their work.”

“From an economic standpoint, it may not be the best fit in a bigger structure any more,” he told the newspaper. “Public clients are very, very conscious about the cost of services.”
