Ten Commandments Judge Ousts Incumbent in Primary Race for Texas Supreme Court
A judge who fought to display the Ten Commandments in his Houston courtroom has ousted an incumbent Texas Supreme Court justice in the GOP primary.
Former Harris County Judge John Devine bested incumbent Justice David Medina. Devine had the backing of the state’s Tea Party, reports Texas Lawyer’s Tex Parte Blog. Medina was endorsed by Gov. Rick Perry and Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
Devine, who is general counsel for a high-tech company, has no Democratic opposition in the November general election. He tells Tex Parte that he worked harder than Medina by attending Republican and Tea Party events across the state. “I’ve gone everywhere I’ve been invited and then some,” he says.
