Odd, threatening email sent by so-called assassin to lawyer
Updated: A Tennessee lawyer has received an email from a man claiming he has been hired to kill him.
The email, sent to the unidentified lawyer’s personal email account from the suspect’s personal email address, detailed how the man had been hired to assassinate him, the Murfreesboro Post reports.
It also said the sender’s “boys” are “getting more information” to track the lawyer down. And it warned the lawyer not to contact police.
Police are now trying to figure out if the email was a hoax, and if not, why the would-be killer, using his real name, would notify his intended victim of his intentions.
However, as pointed out by an ABAJournal.com commenter, this sounds very similar to an email scam which has been around since at least December 2006, according to About.com. In that particular hoax, an email is written by a “hit man” which attempts to extort money from the recipient in return for sparing their life.
