The Tennessee Supreme Court has approved plain-language forms for uncontested divorces without significant legal issues, known as “agreed” divorces in the new documents.

The forms can be used by divorcing couples without children or dependents, without property or businesses, and without retirement benefits, the Commercial Appeal reports. The documents (PDF) provide how-to instructions, including advice on what to wear to court.

“Wear clothes that look like a businessperson,” the forms advise. “No shorts. No tank tops or low cut tops. No crop tops that show your belly. No T-shirts with words or pictures.” Litigants are also told to be polite and to address the judge as “Your Honor.”

Beginning in September, the forms can be downloaded at tncourts.gov or justiceforalltn.com.
