Dallas-based law firm Bickel & Brewer will hike base pay for first year associates in 2013 to $185,000.

Name partner William Brewer spoke to Texas Lawyer’s Tex Parte Blog about the $10,000 boost over this year, an increase that will also be paid to all of the firm’s associates. “The goal here is always to be ahead of the curve,” he said.

Base pay for new associates at many large law firms is lower—$160,000—and the amount is paid by just 46 percent of firms with more than 700 lawyers, according to NALP–The Association for Legal Career Professionals.

Bickel & Brewer has offered permanent associate jobs to eight 3Ls.
