As authorities investigate to try to determine what lies behind the killings of a real estate agent and her two young children at their North Dallas, Texas, home last week, they are taking a hard look at her claims that other crimes she reported earlier this month may have been in retaliation for her late father’s work as a state-court judge.

However, it isn’t clear right now what led an unknown person or persons to shoot 49-year-old Jeanmarie Tolle Geis and her two children, 4 and 8, once each in the head. And, while their deaths have been ruled homicides, the medical examiner is investigating to to determine the exact cause of Jeanmarie Tolle Geis’ death, reports the Dallas Morning News.

“Could murder-suicide be the outcome? Sure,” Police Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse tells the newspaper. “But I would hate to make that ruling and there actually be a murder suspect running loose in our city.”

A previous Dallas Morning News article says police are considering the possibility that Geis shot her two children and then herself.

As discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, neighbors are worried that there is a link between the murders and an unspecified case handled by Geis’ father. And on Friday her husband, Frank Geis, who was at a doctor’s office at the time of the killings, also voiced the same concern: “The bottom line is that this guy was coming back for retaliation [for] somebody that her father put in prison,” he told the newspaper at that time.

“The daughter of the late state District Judge Mark Stenson Tolle, Jeanmarie Geis had told police that she was the victim of attackers who were retaliating against her because of a case presided over by her father. ‘This is for what your sweet daddy did to my family,’ she said one of the attackers told her,” reports the Associated Press.

Authorities are investigating Jeanmarie Geis’ claims concerning the crimes she reported before she and her children were killed, but they may not know for weeks what happened. She reportedly had been dating another man, who says she told him she planned a divorce. However, Frank Geis says the couple wasn’t divorcing, and court records show no divorce filing.
