A Texas law firm says its phone number got hijacked by a woman who apparently transferred its account from Vonage to magicJack.

The Dunham Law Firm in Austin uses an easy-to-remember phone number (it contains a lot of eights) to keep in contact with its personal injury clients. On Feb. 15, the calls suddenly stopped, Texas Lawyer reports.

The firm investigated and learned the account had been transferred by a woman who identified herself as Theresa Palmer. Now it has filed a suit (PDF) naming Palmer as a defendant, though her location is apparently unknown and it’s unclear if she is even a real person.

According to the suit, the law firm’s calls were directed to a voice mail box controlled by Palmer. The calls could have included privileged communications, according to the suit. The complaint alleges tortious interference with contract and prospective business relations, fraud and a violation of a Texas computer security law.
