The Word ‘Matters’ Apparently Matters in Law Firm Taglines

Some law firm taglines are so similar that a merger might be in order.

That’s the conclusion of Legal Blog Watch, which noted Law Firm Web Strategy’s list of 101 law firm taglines. Legal Blog Watch chronicled the best, the worst and the most repetitive.

In the latter category are these similar taglines that make liberal use of the words "matter" and "results":

• Jenner & Block: When it’s a Matter of Importance.

• Steptoe & Johnson: When Experience Matters.

• DLA Piper: Everything Matters.

• Burr & Forman: Results Matter.

• Stewart McKelvey: When Results Count.

Two other taglines are so similar that they differ by only one word. Alston & Bird's tagline is "Leadership. Creativity. Results." Crowell & Moring, on the other hand, touts "Experience. Creativity. Results."

The blog also noted these unforgettable tag lines:

• Foster Townsend Graham: Damn Fine Litigators.

• Harris Beach: Lawyers you’ll swear by. Not at.

• Harrison Pensa: In any case.

Legal Blog Watch has more, including this category: “two taglines possibly made up by my 4-year old or in a five-minute meeting.”

And my very personal favorite: “our longstanding commitment to excellence in everything we do.”

If only I had a nickel for every time I read that one…

I can’t remember which ones had “Exhorbitant.  Billing.  Results.”

Gold star for ambiguity:
“You’ll be happy to get us to work for you.”
