Emily Parker

In 1973, Emily Parker walked through the doors of Thompson & Knight as the firm’s first female attorney.

Now after a career at the firm, which has seen her serve as a practice group leader, hiring partner and on the firm’s management committee, Parker will secure another first. On Feb. 15, she will become the firm’s first female managing partner.

Parker, a tax partner based in Dallas, succeeds Jeffrey A. Zlotky, who a news release notes has led the 350-attorney firm since 2009. Zlotky will go back full-time to his private equity practice focusing on the energy industry.

Texas Lawyer’s Tex Parte Blog reports that Parker was elected to a one-year term, but has committed to serving three years.

“I’m honored to serve the clients and attorneys of Thompson & Knight,” Parker said in the release. “We have spent the last year developing our strategic plan, and I will be focused on implementing that plan to enhance and expand the Firm. I believe that the Firm is well-positioned for the future, and we will continue to build the talent, trust, and culture that allow us to deliver outstanding results for our clients every day.”

Zlotky said Parker’s new role, “is just the latest in a series of firsts that have distinguished Emily’s career in the law and in public service.”

Parker joined Thompson & Knight after graduating from Southern Methodist University School of Law. From 2002 to 2004, she was deputy chief counsel and later acting chief counsel of the Internal Revenue Service.
