In a piece celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Time Out London, it’s across-the-pond iteration Time Out New York has picked its very own Top 40 individuals to recognize, including disgraced governor and onetime crime-fighter Elliot Spitzer.

Time Out explains its choice of Spitzer with the following editorial note, and invited comments:

“We asked Eliot Spitzer the same NYC-related questions as everyone else, although we did add two that, via a spokesperson, he declined to answer: How it felt, for the first time in decades, not be intimately involved directing the future of the city—and also what he’d say to our readers, if they didn’t like his inclusion in our list. We stand by the choice—as attorney general, Spitzer went after white-collar crime and turned the office into a national watchdog. As for his time as Governor: There was promise there—and a chance for the ‘Sheriff of Wall Street’ to clean up Albany and fight for us. By honoring him in this issue, we’re honoring that promise, cut too short.”

In March, Spitzer resigned the office of New York governor in the midst of a prostitution scandal.

Here’s some of what Spitzer did say to Time Out.

When asked to complete the sentence, “New York is…,” Spitzer responded, “the place where no dream is too big to come true.”

And asked which other Top 40 person he’d choose to have a drink with, he said, “These days I prefer hanging out with my kids—having dinner and encouraging them to do their homework and put aside Facebook for awhile.”
