Law firms are taking some hits for their online marketing efforts in a humor columnist’s First Annual Big Law Webbies.

The Fulton County Daily Report’s humor columnist, the Snark, announces winners of categories such as most ambiguous tagline and most mocked biglaw website.

Here are some of the awards:

• Most obscure blog topic. Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice wins for its Furniture Law Blog following intellectual property in the furniture industry.

• Best full-body lawyers-out-of-the-office photos: The Van Winkle Law Firm. The Snark writes: “If you ever wondered, ‘What would my litigator look like wearing body-clinging bike shorts and a racing top with a helmet while perched on a 12-speed?’ this is the site is for you!”

• Taglines. Most ambiguous is Hermes Sargent Bates’ “Minds Over Matters”; least creative is Dickinson Wright’s “Great Lawyers. Great Firm”; most likely to decrease recruiting efforts is Jackson Lewis’ “All We Do Is Work”; and Snark favorite is Harris Beach’s “Lawyers you’ll swear by. Not at.”

• Most mocked biglaw website belongs to Morrison & Foerster. Said one reader, “It’s black and white taken to the extreme of total boredom.” Another reader described the style as “best cutting-edge design that doesn’t cut it.” Above the Law noted the website redesign in February. “Morrison & Foerster has fully embraced the moniker MoFo,” the blog said. “And now the firm appears to be embracing a WTF theme for its website.” Visitors have to click on shapes and words to learn more about the firm in a kind of online puzzle that includes “mind games, sound effects and optical illusions,” according to the blog.
