For those who can’t or won’t take time for a real vacation and turn off their electronic devices, some employers are agreeing to another option.

The so-called workcation allows employees to travel to an exotic location and work from there, without having time docked from their allowed vacation days, reports the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.).

Among those who are finding the arrangement productive is Shirley Bloomfield. A media trade association executive, she and her attorney husband spent a week working at a Delaware beach house earlier this year. The couple scheduled their work tasks at the same time, to maximize opportunities to relax together on their off time.

While the experience “wasn’t quite the Zen sense you would get from a real vacation,” Bloomfield said, she was able to take some phone calls while her toes were in the sand.
