The highest-paid employee in Alabama’s Jefferson County is County Attorney Jeff Sewell.

But he may not be there much longer: Sewell has packed the contents of his office into boxes and cleared his desk in midst of an ongoing discussion about whether he, along with other members of the county’s in-house legal staff, will actually receive promised pay raises, reports the Birmingham News.

For Sewell, the amount of his raise would be about $30,000. He is paid $375,000 annually, after accepting the county’s top legal job in 2008 for $88,000 less than his predecessor was paid.
