The New Yorker is looking ahead with a list of the top five legal stories of 2012.

The No. 5 story, however, is lacking some details. “A celebrity will be arrested,” the magazine says. “Analysis will ensue.”

Other predictions name the topic, but hedge on the outcome. At No. 1 are the health care cases pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. “There are many theories about how the ruling will play out,” the New Yorker says. “The implications for the power of the federal government are enormous, especially if the court strikes down health care. If this law is unconstitutional, there are other dominoes that may fall.”

Other topics include same-sex marriage (it will likely survive in California), affirmative action (the Supreme Court could nix it) and the future of football (civil litigation will highlight the health risks).
