Two top real estate partners have left Herrick Feinstein in New York for Hunton & Williams.

Carl Schwartz, who worked on some of the city’s biggest deals as chair of his now-former law firm’s real estate practice group, will now chair his new firm’s New York real estate practice group. Coming with him to Hunton & Williams as a real estate partner is Laurie Grasso, who headed the real estate private equity group at Herrick Feinstein, reports Crain’s New York Business.

Although the 160-attorney Herrick firm has a powerhouse reputation among New York real estate clients and Hunton & Williams is not as well known, the 800-attorney Richmond, Va.-based firm offers both a big team of attorneys and more cost-effective service, because it is headquartered outside New York, Schwartz told the business publication.

“We are excited to provide our clients with a national platform and widely recognized equity fund, REIT and finance practices,” he said. Grasso said she and Schwartz will be “educating the New York market” about their new firm.

The Herrick firm issued a statement wishing both attorneys the best personally and professionally and saying it anticipated both firms would do well in the busy commercial real estate field.
