Top state court declines to intervene in dispute between DA and police department
Pennsylvania’s top court has declined to intervene in a dispute between a district attorney and a local police department investigating a claim that she forged a judge’s signature on a court order reducing bail for a defendant.
In an emergency petition, Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller had sought a ruling from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court upholding her position that only the state attorney general’s office has authority to investigate her office. She contends she has been targeted for retaliation by county commissioners and the Bellefonte police department simply for doing her job, reports the Centre Daily Times.
However, in a brief order (PDF) on Friday that did not explain its reasoning, the supreme court denied the emergency petition.
