A 200-lawyer California intellectual property boutique is establishing an East Coast presence in Washington, D.C., with seven lawyers raided from other firms.

Townsend and Townsend and Crew has set up shop temporarily at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, in a law office headed by Gary Morris, formerly of Kenyon & Kenyon, reports bizjournals.com. Richard Meyer, who formerly chaired McGuireWoods’ patent practice and worked in its McLean, Virginia, office, will be in charge of Townsend’s East Coast litigation practice.

Morris is among three Kenyon partners raided by Townsend; the other two are Neil McCarthy and John McGroarty. In addition to Meyer, three other lawyers jumping from McGuire Woods to Townsend’s new D.C. operation are Jonathan Link, a partner; Andrew Pratt, special counsel; and Andrea Tiglio, an associate.
