A major insurer is facing a federal housing discrimination case over its alleged refusal to provide homeowner coverage to individuals who have a pit bull as a service animal.

Several Travelers insurance companies and two insurance agents are named in the suit brought by the Fair Housing Council of Oregon. It says testers who told the company they were disabled could not get a quote once they said they had a pit bull as a service animal, the Oregonian reports.

“They have a prohibition against certain breeds, and pit bulls are one of them,” said attorney Dennis Steinman, who represents the council.

The Oregonian article doesn’t include any comment from the defendants or their legal counsel.
